Robotics students advance to worlds

A Kittson Central High School robotics team will fly to Orlando, Fla., April 14-16 for the world championship of BEST Robotics after successes at local and regional competitions.

Team members include seniors Anna Christenson, Markas Dahl, Nick Gatheridge, Paige Mortenson, Briana Nupdal, Dylan Olson and Shannon Swanson; juniors Denise Dziengel, Dean Lipinski, Jacey Mitziga and Stephani Pastir; and sophomores Brita Christenson, McKenzy Davis, Blake Hultgren, Logan Johnson, Sydney Klein, J.P. Mortenson, Jordan Rynning, Ericka Swanson, Braeden Weimer and Brandon Weimer.

Red River names store managers

The Red River High School Marketing Department announced its school store managers for third quarter.

They are Jade Stanislowski, general manager; Jared Vigen, financial manager; Kayla Knoll, operations manager; and Jenn Harmon, human relations manager.

SPA receives grant from Myra

The Summer Performing Arts Company announced this week it would receive $2,000 from the Myra Foundation for its 2011 season.

The money will go toward an instrumental music assistant and expenses for the Steel Drums program. SPA, a program of Grand Forks schools, has received funding from the Myra Foundation for 11 years.

The foundation funds charitable and educational programs in Grand Forks County.

It’s Catholic Schools Week

Sacred Heart School in East Grand Forks will hold various events this week to celebrate the national Catholic Schools Week.

Events include a spelling bee, college visits and a lecture about service from three area alumni.

State Debate Tournament set

The 98th annual State Debate Tournament, sponsored by the North Dakota High School Activities Association, will take place Friday and Saturday at Fargo South High School.

Rounds start at 3:45 p.m. Friday. Final rounds are scheduled a 3:30 p.m. Saturday, with an awards ceremony to follow.

Admission is free and open to the public.
